All students studying for the GCSE in English Language are required to complete a "presentation/speech, including responses to questions and feedback" (from the Eduqas specification as seen here).
At St. Bede's, we ask you to compose and deliver a speech on a topic of your choice. You will choose the subject of your speech in Year 10, after which you are given time to research, compose and practise delivering your speech before presenting it during Year 11.
This unit of work is not optional. All students must present a speech and all speeches are recorded in line with the exam board's requirements. However, you do not need to present to a whole room of people.
There are some pretty simple requirements when you present your speech, as outlined below:
You must present, rather than read - that means cue card at the most and no reading from a script.
Your idea must be engaging and unique - or, at the very least, different to your peers'
You must respond to questions and feedback in a thoughtful manner
Your speech must be clear and formal - not colloquial or slang
We have collated some resources below to assist you with developing your speech. Take some time to flick through them, making notes on each presentation and reflecting on how it could help you form your speech.
Massive thanks to Miss Letki for putting these resources together for us:
